Allergies and NAET
Allergies are one of the most challenging, yet widely misunderstood illnesses. they are very common in this day and time because of our increasing amount of stress, environmental pollution and additives that are continually being added to the food we eat. Yet many people think that allergies just involve symptoms similar to hayfever. In fact, there are many more symptoms which encompass virtually every major body system. Some of these symptoms include: fatigue, insomnia, headaches, arthritis, painful joints, bloating, gas, vaginitis, prostatitis, asthma, PMS, mood swings, inability ot loose weight, depression, behavior problems, skin problems, rashes, sinus congestion, bronchitis, constipation, athlete’s foot, urinary or ear infections, colitis, diarrhea, sore throats and bed wetting.
Many people’s allergy symptoms flare up on a damp or moldy day, or when they are more stressed, or when they eat foods to which they are allergic. This can sometimes be a bit confusing, because many times people have both immediate and delayed reactions to their allergies. In addition, some people who have had chronic allergies are bombarded with foods or environmental allergens that they are allergic to all the time, so that they never get a “break” from their symptoms or pain and thus, are unable to directly see that their symptoms are directly related to their allergies.
So, is there any hope for allergy patients? Indeed there is, Chinese and Wholistic Medicine offers a wide variety of treatments for the patient. But first, it is important to find out what one’s allergies are, so that they may be better able to get on a good diet and first avoid the allergic food. Then , after the patient’s immune system builds up and get stronger (with the use of Chinese and Wholistic Medicine) they may gradually reintroduce or expose themselves to those allergic foods or inhalants (gases, perfumes, etc) without such severe reactions. These allergies or sensitivities can be determined by kinesiological muscle testing, which is a simple test that is approximately 10 times less in cost than conventional allergy testing. Thus, with proper diet, lifestyle management and Chinese and Wholistic treatments, it is indeed possible to completely recover from allergies, depending on the nature, severity and duration of the condition.
What is the nature of the treatment of these Chinese and Wholistic treatments? The Chinese method of treating allergies, is not only to build up the immune system, but to relieve the symptoms, and treat the root cause of the problem. It may be involved with strengthening the spleen, lung or kidney meridians, but also relieving the congestion of the liver, spleen, intestine or lung. There are many acupuncture points and herbs which have these functions and it depends on the individual imbalance, which types of points and herbs to choose to help the patient. The herbs and acupuncture points are uniquely used to balance the whole person using the 5 element theory of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. In this way, we are balancing at least 2-4 systems in the body at the same time, so that one system does not get thrown out of balance by any one method of treatment.
There is an additional method of treating allergies which is called the NAET technique. With this method, the patient’s allergies are tested by kinesiology first. Then, the patient holds the allergen (mold, foods, pollen, chemicals, etc.) while getting a special type of acupuncture treatment. Then the patient avoids the allergen for 24 hours to “desensitize”. This method can be very comprehensive and more helpful in treating allergies.
NAET and Allergies
NAET stands for Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique. With this technique or treatment one can desensitize to individual allergens such as, dairy, wheat, dust, animals, pollen, mold, nuts, chemicals, etc. This is done by holding the individual allergen in the hands of the patient while the acupuncturist needles or applies pressure to the specific points, which help the individual desensitize to that allergen. This technique is very effective for food, environmental and chemical allergies. It is more effective and recommended that the individual start with less reactive allergens such as eggs, Vitamin C,B,E, A, Calcium, sugar, minerals, salts, phenols before going to the more reactive allergens such as dairy, wheat and chemicals, etc.
The symptoms of allergies are very varied. They can include not only sinus congestion, but also arthritis, pain, frequent infections, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, headaches, migraines, asthma, insomnia, bloating, gas, colitis, diarrhea, constipation, sore throats, mood swings, vaginitis, athlete’s foot, and bed wetting. Many times people do not know that they can be having many delayed reactions to some foods all the time and feel symptoms constantly but not acutely. NAET treatments can completely eliminate symptoms of allergy, so that the person is no longer allergic to that substance. Many people have had their lives changed simply because they were desensitized to substances that they were continually exposed to in their work or home environment.
In short, both Chinese and Wholistic Medicines are very valuable tools to use in recovering from one’s allergies, but it also requires a large degree of patient education, so that each patient may fully participate in the management of their diet, lifestyle and stress level, while they are on the “road to recovery”. When this program is followed, many patients can indeed completely recover from their allergies and live a pain-free, drug-free life again.
